Franklin Park has grown to over 18,000 residents and the Village serves as host for over 1,000 businesses. Franklin Park has three Metra stations: Belmont Avenue on Metra's North Central Service, which provides daily rail service between Antioch and Chicago (at Union Station); Franklin Park and Mannheim on the Milwaukee District/West Line which connects Chicago to Elgin. It is also noteworthy that Mike Shanahan, coach of the Los Angeles Raiders, Denver Broncos, and Washington Redskins, played high school football in Franklin Park at East Leyden High School.
